47 Trees: Opening event and dedication 21st June

Getting ready to plant!

More than 47 trees have now been planted in the wider Rusholme area by community organisations and the City Council in honour of Sir Gerald Kaufman who was our MP for 47 years.

The 47 Trees for Sir Gerald Kaufman project was launched in 2017 and has been supported by many local organisations. These include Friends of Birchfields and Platt Feilds Parks, Trinity House, New Apostolic Church, Schuster Road & Park Range and West Point Residents Associations, Birch Community Centre and Creative Rusholme, along with our local councilors and Manchester City Council.

A dedication event will be held on 21st June commencing at 5.00 p.m. with walks to visit the trees starting in Whitworth Park, West Point Triangle and Trinity House. They will converge on Birch Community Centre for a dedication event starting at 6.15 followed by refreshments. It is hoped that Afzal Kahn MP and members of Sir Gerald’s family will be present.

Full details and meeting points for the walks will be posted here once finalised.
